The Royal Cape Yacht Club Development Sailing Team

The Royal Cape Yacht Club’s Development Sailing was established to introduce underprivileged youth from within the city of Cape Town and its surrounding areas to the opportunities available from partaking in ocean sailing.

The development team trains and prepares these youth in all aspect of sailing in ocean-going vessels and provides them with the necessary skills to be a competent skipper.

As a part of the event, RISKAFRICA, in accordance with the Royal Cape Yacht Club, will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the RCYC Development sailing team.

The RCYC Development Sailing provides these youth candidates with the opportunity to further their careers within the marine industry and progress with the sport of sailing. Skills that are learned include navigation skills, boat handling skills, first aid and interpersonal relationship.

Partners of the RCYC Development Sailing:

  • Jewish Maritime League is the supplier of one L26 boat for the use of the RCYC Development Sailing team.

To fast track and simplify the program it was decided to partner with the highly successful Zeekoevlei Sailing Centre which has been in operation for the past 2 – 3 years. A number of their trainees have already represented the sport at provincial and national regattas around the country, while some have already participated in ocean crossings and ocean races like the famous Cape to Rio yacht race.
