Who is organising the event?

The event is organised by RISKAFRICA Magazine.

Where is the event located?

The Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC) is located in Duncan Road, in the Port of Cape Town’s Foreshore. For directions to the event, please CLICK HERE

What will the pre-race / Captains’ Cocktail event entail?

On Friday (20 October), a Captains’ Cocktail Party will be held at the RCYC’s deck at 20h00 for all teams, guests and crew. This will include arrival/welcome hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Dress code is smart-casual.

What time do proceedings start on Race Day?

All participants and teams must be present at the RCYC at 09:30 on Saturday, 21 October where coffee, tea, juice, muffins and croissants will be served upon arrival in the main hall.

What will the post-race event entail?

On Saturday (21 October), a prize-giving and gala dinner will be held at the RCYC’s Regatta Centre at 19h00 for all teams and crew. Dress code is smart.

I’ve been invited onto the VIP boat, am I going to be racing?

No. There will be VIP boats for our special guests to enjoy all the on-water action in style.

What is good to wear when you’re out on the boat?

We suggest wearing a short-sleeve shirt, short pants and non-marking rubber-soled shoes. Remember to bring along a jacket/windbreaker to keep you warm. Also remember to take lots of sunscreen, wear a hat as well as sunglasses.

Will there be an opportunity to freshen-up between events?

Yes. The last boat will arrive back at the dock at 16h00, allowing guests sufficient time to return to the hotel to shower and dress. Shower facilities are also available at the RCYC should you prefer.

Is it just for professionals?

Absolutely not. Your crew does not need any sailing experience, as each boat will have a competent skipper and qualified crew on board to assist team members.

How many people do you expect at the event?

We’re expecting over 300 guests to attend the event.

How does the scoring system work?

The scoring system for the RISKAFRICA Regatta is handicap time-based according to the basic handicap scoring system as laid out by the RCYC committee.

What about spectators?

The event is not open to the public and is by invitation only. Invited guests will view all the action of the RISKAFRICA Regatta aboard our two dedicated VIP press boats.

When do I have to wear a life jacket?

Everyone must wear a life jacket when on the dock or boat which will be supplied to each team member by the captain of the boat.

Can I bring guests?

No, RISKAFRICA Regatta is by invitation only. No additional guests are allowed.

Do I need to know how to swim?

In the unlikely event that the boat capsizes, it is necessary for you to have a basic level of comfort in the water. However, your life vest will be sufficient to keep you afloat until you are rescued.
